Trivandrum is the far end of Kerala from our campus: about 500 km from Kannur and an overnight train. So for Thiruvananthapuram students the honest recommendation is the online live batch of the 4 month DevOps Engineer course, with the Kannur campus reserved for the six month project phase of the Career Program if you choose to take it. Techcake has no branch in Trivandrum. Technopark is home to the most established IT employers in the state, and their DevOps postings ask for the stack this syllabus covers.
Online live is the mode for you. The overnight distance rules out the weekly campus days that Calicut students enjoy, and hybrid from Trivandrum only makes sense for one or two planned trips, usually the Kubernetes week and the final review. Everything else, including the AWS and Terraform labs, runs in your own lab environment with the trainer on the call.
Batches follow evening and weekend schedules. If you are already employed at Technopark or Technocity, the weekday evening batch fits after office hours. If you are in college at CET, Barton Hill or one of the Kazhakkoottam colleges, the weekend batch keeps your weekdays clear.
The Career Program is a bigger decision from Trivandrum than from anywhere else. Phase 1 can be completed entirely from home. Phase 2, six months of mentored production projects, is on campus in Taliparamba, and from Trivandrum that means staying in Kannur for the duration. Some students treat it like a semester away. The counsellor will tell you plainly whether that is the right fit or whether the course plus your own project work is the better path.
What you would gain from those six months on campus is proximity: to the trainer between sessions, to the shared lab, and to the mentors from our industry partner (an AWS consulting company) who review each project as if it were their own team's work. From 500 km away, that proximity cannot be simulated, which is why we do not pretend Phase 2 works online.
Technopark and the newer Technocity campus host the largest established IT employers in Kerala, and DevOps roles here tend to be inside bigger teams with formal levels. Envestnet lists a Lead Engineer for DevOps on its own careers site with Trivandrum as the location. UST, a long-standing Technopark employer, has advertised an Azure DevOps Engineer role in Trivandrum on LinkedIn and a DevOps Engineer role across Kochi and Trivandrum on Instahyre asking for 2 to 6 years of experience. Indeed shows dozens of DevOps Engineer results filtered to Technopark at the time of writing, from junior roles requiring a few months of Kubernetes and Docker exposure up to senior positions built around GitLab CI/CD and GitOps.
The pattern in Trivandrum differs from Kochi in two ways. Larger employers mean more structured hiring: aptitude rounds, panel interviews, and a clear expectation that you can explain container orchestration and a cloud platform, whether that is AWS or Azure. And several roles mention rotational or night shifts because the clients are overseas.
Our syllabus is built on AWS, which maps directly to most of the postings. Where a role asks for Azure, the concepts you learn, including networking, IAM, managed Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code, carry across, and we tell students that honestly rather than claiming to teach every cloud.
The DevOps Engineer course is about 16 weeks in four modules: Linux and Networking Foundations, Containers with Docker, CI/CD and Automation with Git, Jenkins and GitHub Actions, and AWS Cloud plus Infrastructure as Code with Terraform. No prior DevOps experience is expected.
The DevOps Engineer Career Program extends the course with six mentored production projects on campus over six months: production Linux, a Dockerised application stack, a CI/CD pipeline, an AWS migration, Kubernetes on EKS with Helm and autoscaling, and Terraform with Prometheus and Grafana. It closes with a portfolio, resume and LinkedIn rewrite, recorded mock interviews and mentor referrals.
Engineers already in operations at Technopark who want only the project phase can look at the standalone DevOps project-based training. You are a Technopark employee in testing, support or application maintenance who wants to move into the platform team and needs Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform to be taken seriously. You are a recent graduate from a college in Thiruvananthapuram district who wants a DevOps portfolio before campus placements at the big Technopark names. You are a developer who has been given deployment duties without training. You are self-disciplined enough to attend a live online class from home for four months.
It is not the right fit if you want classroom attendance every week, because from Trivandrum that is not practical and we will not suggest otherwise.
