A DevOps engineer in India earns an average of roughly ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh a year depending on which salary site you read: PayScale reports ₹9,98,346, AmbitionBox ₹9.2 lakh, Glassdoor ₹8,10,000 and Indeed ₹7,81,850. Freshers with under a year of experience sit near ₹4.5 lakh, engineers with 3 to 6 years near ₹8 lakh to ₹9 lakh, and engineers with 6 to 9 years at ₹12 lakh to ₹15 lakh. Kochi figures are close to or above the national average, while wider Kerala samples are smaller and lower. This page was last updated in September 2026 and is refreshed once a year.
The four largest public salary sites agree that the national average for a DevOps engineer is between ₹7.8 lakh and ₹10 lakh a year. The spread comes from how each site counts pay (base only versus total pay), who submits data, and when the sample was last refreshed.
PayScale puts the average base salary at ₹9,98,346, with the 10th to 90th percentile running from ₹401,000 to ₹3,000,000, based on 896 salary profiles last updated 8 July 2026. AmbitionBox shows an average of ₹9.2 lakh and a typical range of ₹8.8 lakh to ₹9.7 lakh, drawn from more than 1.2 lakh reported salaries. Glassdoor India lists an average total pay of ₹8,10,000, with base pay of ₹5 lakh to ₹12 lakh and an average base of ₹7 lakh. Indeed India reports ₹7,81,850 from 313 salaries, updated 28 August 2026.
Treat these as a band, not a promise. Your offer depends on employer type, city, and how much of the stack you can actually run.
Experience is the single biggest driver. Every source shows the same shape: a modest fresher figure, a roughly doubling by the 5 year mark, and a second large step once you lead production systems.
| Experience level | Annual figure (INR) | Sample | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry level, under 1 year | ₹4,52,793 average total pay | 80 salaries | PayScale, Entry Level |

| Senior DevOps Engineer | ₹11 lakh to ₹24 lakh | Glassdoor title range | Glassdoor, Senior DevOps Engineer |

| Lead DevOps Engineer | ₹15 lakh to ₹30 lakh | Glassdoor title range | Glassdoor, Lead DevOps Engineer |
Two things stand out. First, the fresher figure of about ₹4.5 lakh is the weakest number in the table because most people do not enter DevOps as a first job; they come in after a year or two in support, sysadmin or development. Second, the 3 to 6 year band is where the largest number of salaries sit (over 93,000 on AmbitionBox), so it is the most reliable benchmark for a mid-level offer.
Kochi is the only Kerala city with enough DevOps salary submissions to quote with any confidence, and its figures sit at or above the Indian average. Wider "Kerala" numbers are drawn from very small samples and should be read as indicative only.
| Location | Annual figure (INR) | Sample | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kochi, average | ₹11.3 lakh (typical ₹10.7 lakh to ₹11.9 lakh) | 337 salaries | AmbitionBox, Kochi |
| Kochi, 1 to 3 years | ₹6.6 lakh to ₹8.3 lakh | 103 salaries | AmbitionBox, Kochi |
| Kochi, 3 to 6 years | ₹9.5 lakh to ₹10.8 lakh | 203 salaries | AmbitionBox, Kochi |
| Kochi, 6 to 9 years | ₹12.1 lakh to ₹15 lakh | 33 salaries | AmbitionBox, Kochi |
| Kochi, average base | ₹9,24,324 | PayScale Kochi pool | PayScale, Kochi |
| Kochi, entry level | ₹5,60,000 | 7 salaries | PayScale, Kochi |
| Kochi, average | ₹9,40,195 | 9 salaries, Aug 2025 | Indeed, Kochi |
| Thiruvananthapuram, average | ₹6,70,502 | Indeed city pool | Indeed, Thiruvananthapuram |
| Kerala, average | ₹6,60,956 | 3 salaries, Dec 2025 | Indeed, Kerala |
Why is Kochi higher than the "Kerala" figure? Because most Kerala DevOps roles are in Infopark and the surrounding Kakkanad cluster, and the AmbitionBox Kochi sample is dominated by IT services and product companies that pay close to Bengaluru or Chennai rates for the same title. The three-salary Indeed "Kerala" figure is too small to draw a conclusion from. If you are planning around Kochi, read our DevOps training for Kochi page for the local hiring context.
None of the four sites publish a DevOps salary series for Kannur, Kozhikode or Thrissur at the time of writing. Engineers from north Kerala mostly work remotely or relocate to Kochi, Bengaluru or Chennai, so the Kochi and India bands are the practical reference.
Three skills consistently attract a premium in the public data: cloud depth on AWS, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code. Employer type matters almost as much.
Certifications on their own do not appear as a separate premium in any of the four datasets.
Salary sites are self-reported, so read the sample size before the number. A figure built on 300 submissions is worth more than one built on 3, and every table above shows the sample where the site publishes it.
Check four things on any salary page:
None of these sites capture the whole market. Many Kerala offers, especially at small companies and startups, are never submitted anywhere.
Techcake does not publish salary outcomes for its students because the sample is small and we will not invent numbers. What we can say is how each programme maps to the experience bands above.
Real placements are listed on our placements page with names and employers. For the skills order, read the DevOps roadmap for freshers. There is no job guarantee at Techcake and we are not pay-after-placement; fees and EMI options are shared on a free counsellor call.
